While I was writing my research proposal and figuring out my topic, the results of Google searches for female and minority scenic designers was disappointing - there was so little even though I knew they were out there. So, I decided to complete my research them because I believe that these designers deserve to be brought into the spotlight, and I also believe that representation is important both on and off stage. And I'm finding so many names in the archives and it's really exciting. This summer, I'm bringing the works of a few scenic designers to life by building models of their sets from photos and blueprints (the one in the picture is Emeline Roche's Act I set for Anna Christie).
