Costume Design 1

This course is a foundation for the study of the basic principles, practices and techniques of costume design for the stage. Skills and methodologies studied in this course will include: the function of stage costumes, the costume designer’s process; how the elements and principles of design are utilized in costume design; script analysis; character and costume development; research methods; costume and dress history as it relates to the assigned play; fabric and costume accessory selection; figure and costume rendering techniques; the implementation color theory and media; effective communication and presentation skill as used by costume designers.
